Space and Sensory: Self - Exploration through Spaces [Sensory Space] 

This assignment focuses on advancing students' skills in crafting conceptual narratives and introduces an awareness of human body dimensions (anthropometrics and ergonomics). Students will explore and apply basic design principles, aiming to consider both objective and subjective parameters for creating practical yet poetic spaces. The assignment also delves into the impact of material selection on the sensory experience of space. Prepare for a creative journey that combines narrative crafting, design principles, and a nuanced understanding of human dimensions and materials.

1. RE-INTERPRETATION OF YOUR MODEL(S) FROM PROJECT 1

  • Re-interpret, re-examine, and re-explore your model(s) from Project 1

  • Create a design intent (narrative) based on your re-interpretation

  • Develop your design intent (narrative) into an architectural experience of Path-Portal-Place.

2. MATERIAL AND STRUCTURE RESEARCH

  • Select minimum two (2), maximum three (3) of the following materials to be applied onto the re-interpretation of your 1:1 structure

  • Study your selected materials’ characteristics, properties, construction techniques, and sensorial qualities, and apply it to the creation of your spaces

3. IDEA EXPLORATION AND TEST MODELS

  • Further develop and test your re-interpretation via a series of test models, sketches and drawings.

4. DRAWINGS AND FINAL MODEL

  • Exploded axonometric as key drawings to show structure and joinery details.

  • Floor plan, section, and elevation of your design

  • Diagrams to illustrate ideas

Reflecting on this design journey, I've honed skills in concept creation, integrating architectural elements for compelling space-making compositions. The exploration of the individual 'self' and body in relation to space added experiential depth. Understanding materiality and detailing proved essential in capturing design essence. Satisfactory manual drawing and model-making skills enabled effective design representation. This journey heightened my creative abilities and underscored the vital interplay between concepts, materiality, and skillful representation in design.
